If you’ve ever taken a reformer Pilates class, you already know how effective the machine is. But when the founders of The PilatesBarre set out to open our Dallas studios, we didn’t want to use the same equipment everyone else was using. We wanted something better. So we built it ourselves.
The result is the BarreFormer — an exclusive, in-house designed reformer that you won’t find at any other studio in Dallas or anywhere else.
What Is a Traditional Reformer?
Before we get into what makes the Barreformer special, a quick primer for anyone new to Pilates equipment.
A traditional reformer is a sliding carriage mounted on a frame, with a system of springs that provide adjustable resistance. You push and pull the carriage using your arms, legs, and core — working your entire body through a low-impact, controlled range of motion. It’s one of the most effective pieces of fitness equipment ever designed, which is why reformer Pilates has exploded in popularity across Dallas and nationwide.
But as effective as traditional reformers are, they have limitations. The founders of The PilatesBarre knew exactly what those limitations were — and designed the BarreFormer to eliminate them.
What Makes the BarreFormer Different?
1. A split carriage for single leg exercises
This is one of the BarreFormer’s most distinctive features. Unlike a traditional reformer with a single fixed carriage, the BarreFormer’s carriage can split — allowing you to work each leg independently. This opens up an entirely new range of single leg exercises that simply aren’t possible on a standard reformer, and makes every workout more targeted and more effective.
2. It reveals imbalances your body didn’t know it had
Because the carriage can work each side of the body independently, the BarreFormer exposes something most people never discover on a traditional reformer: oblique imbalances. Most of us have one side that’s stronger or more flexible than the other — and a standard reformer can mask that because the stronger side compensates. The BarreFormer makes those imbalances visible, so our instructors can help you correct them. Over time this leads to better posture, fewer injuries, and a more balanced, functional body.
3. More resistance band training
The BarreFormer’s spring system doubles as a resistance band training platform — the springs themselves provide resistance for a wide range of exercises beyond traditional Pilates moves. This means your class can seamlessly blend classic Pilates with strength training in a way that keeps your muscles guessing and your workout fresh.
4. Springs that work on the floor too
The BarreFormer’s springs aren’t limited to carriage-based exercises. They can be used for floor exercises as well, adding an extra dimension of resistance training that traditional reformers simply don’t offer. This is part of what makes our classes feel different from reformer Pilates anywhere else in Dallas — the BarreFormer makes it possible to combine Pilates, strength training, and resistance work in a single 45 or 50 minute class.
5. Built longer — for every body
Standard reformers were not designed with taller people in mind. The BarreFormer is built longer than a traditional reformer, which means taller clients can work through a full range of motion comfortably — no cramped footbar, no awkward adjustments. And for average height clients, the extra length simply means more comfort and more room to move.
6. No height limitations for athletes
Over the years, The PilatesBarre has trained professional athletes — and the Barreformer was built to handle them. Pro athletes can work at full intensity, full range of motion, without any of the height or reach limitations that make traditional reformers frustrating for larger, longer bodies. Whether you’re 5’2″ or 6’5″, the BarreFormer works for you.
Who Is the BarreFormer For?
Everyone — and we mean that genuinely.
Complete beginners will find the BarreFormer approachable and easy to learn. Our instructors guide you through every movement, and the adjustable spring resistance means you always work at the right level for your body.
All fitness levels benefit from the BarreFormer’s versatility. As you get stronger, the exercises get more challenging — there’s always a next level to reach.
Athletes and advanced users will appreciate the extra length, the split carriage, and the ability to combine Pilates with serious resistance training. The BarreFormer can challenge even the most conditioned athletes.
Rehabilitation and injury recovery clients love the BarreFormer’s low-impact, joint-friendly design. Because the spring resistance supports your body weight through movements, you can rebuild strength and mobility without stressing injured joints. Many of our Dallas clients come to us on the recommendation of physical therapists and orthopedic doctors.
